West seeing surge despite higher fully-vaccinated population

At a time when a new variant has led to restrictions on travellers from South Africa and other African nations, many western courtries are seeing a surge in Covid cases despite a larger propottion of their population being fully vaccinated with Germany, US and the UK reporting more than 50,000 Covid cases daily, according to the John Hopkins university Covid resource centre.
